Kitchen cabinet door styles and colors

Innovation Cabinetry offers four indoor door styles: shaker, slim shaker, flat panel (slab) and raised panel. Colors fall into white, cream, gray, blue, green, black and wood tones. Pick the door style first, since it sets the look. Then choose a color, and ask your dealer for a sample.

Style comes first

Door style sets the look of the room. Color changes the mood but not the shape.

What is a shaker cabinet door?

A shaker door has a five-piece frame around a flat, recessed center panel. The look is simple and clean, with no carving. It fits traditional, transitional and modern kitchens. Innovation Cabinetry offers shaker doors in EliteCraft Craftsman and in Urban Simplicity.

The company describes Craftsman cabinets as having “simple straight lines, quality construction, and minimal ornamentation.” The EliteCraft shaker pages list solid wood frame doors with mortise and tenon joints. Painted finishes are multi-layered, and the interior matches the exterior.

EliteCraft Craftsman colors:

Urban Simplicity adds shaker doors in Blonde Oak, Natural Oak, Whisper Blue, Sage and Forest Green.

What is a slim shaker door?

A slim shaker door keeps the five-piece shaker idea but uses narrower frame pieces. The result looks lighter and more contemporary than a standard shaker. It suits modern kitchens that want a hint of shaker detail without wide borders.

Slim shaker doors belong to the Urban Simplicity group. The current slim shaker colors are:

The white slim shaker page says doors and drawers “feature a multi-layer painted finish with matching edge banding.” The same Urban line also uses edge banding on its slab doors. For a deeper look at rails, stiles and when each style fits, read the shaker, slim shaker and flat panel guide.

What is a flat panel door?

A flat panel door, also called a slab door, is one flat piece with no frame lines. It gives a plain, modern face. Innovation Cabinetry calls its Urban Cityscapes doors “flat panel” with European styling. Flat panel doors in Urban sit on frameless boxes.

The flat panel door works well where you want the color or grain to carry the design. There are no panels or grooves to catch cleaning cloths or dust.

Our European styling of its flat panel door “will create a modern look for any living space.” You can see the full set on the Urban collection page. The Urban brochure shows these Cityscapes finishes:

  • TFL surface: Bianco, Stone Gray, Modern Gray, Concrete Gray, Blonde Oak, Black Forest, Natural Oak and Umbria Elm. TFL means thermally fused laminate.
  • Matte lacquer, fingerprint resistant: Emerald and Raven.
  • High gloss lacquer: Ultra White, Harbor Gray and Bayport.

For woodgrain colors, the brochure notes that grain matching is not available.

What is a raised panel door?

A raised panel door has a frame around a center panel that is shaped or built up, so it stands out from the frame. It reads as formal and traditional. Innovation Cabinetry offers it in the EliteCraft Classic line.

The company describes the Classic door as a “premium raised panel door, featuring a luxurious and gracefully detailed center panel.” The raised panel door style appears in two colors you can view today:

The Classic White page lists a frameless cabinet with raised panel doors, solid wood frames with mortise and tenon joints, and a glass front option. Glass and clips are not included. Doors have a decorative MDF center panel with solid wood stiles and rails. The EliteCraft brochure calls that the preferred construction for painted wood.

Decorative trim and molding are available. If you want crown molding with the Classic look, see crown molding.

What color families does Innovation Cabinetry offer?

Indoor cabinets come in seven color families: white, cream, gray, blue, green, black and wood tones. Families are a shopping guide, not an official company grouping. The lists below group the colors that have their own pages.

The full indoor set is on the colors page. For tips on pairing colors with counters and floors, read the guide to choosing kitchen cabinet colors.

How do I choose between painted, wood-tone and textured finishes?

Match the finish to how you live and how much variation you accept. Painted finishes give an even color. Wood-tone finishes show grain. Matte and gloss lacquer change how light and fingerprints show. Look at each color page to see which finish it uses.

Here is how the finishes in the Urban brochure break down:

Finish Colors Notes
Multi-layer painted White Slim Shaker, Seaside Dune, Forest Green, Whisper Blue, Sage Even color, shaker doors
TFL surface Bianco, Stone Gray, Modern Gray, Concrete Gray, Blonde Oak, Natural Oak, Black Forest, Umbria Elm Slab and some shaker doors
Matte lacquer Emerald, Raven Fingerprint resistant, per the brochure
High gloss lacquer Ultra White, Harbor Gray, Bayport Glossy fronts

EliteCraft colors use a multi-layered painted finish with a protective UV topcoat, per the EliteCraft brochure. Wood moves with humidity. The company’s policies page explains that an open joint line in a painted finish is not considered a defect, and that stained wood shows grain and color variation. Read the policies page before you pick a painted or stained wood door.

Does the door style change how the cabinet is built?

The door changes the look, not the basic design of the box. EliteCraft and Urban pages describe frameless boxes in every door style. They list 6-way adjustable hinges, soft-close action and full extension under-mount glides. The company states these as shared features of the line.

Box and drawer details do vary by collection. Urban pages list a 3/4 inch white plywood box and a slim 1/2 inch metal drawer. EliteCraft pages list 3/4 inch furniture-grade plywood and solid wood drawers with dovetail joints. See dovetail drawer and soft-close hinge for plain definitions.

So you can choose on looks first. Check the construction list on the color page you like, then ask your dealer about anything unclear.

What about outdoor kitchen door styles and colors?

Endura, the outdoor line, has five door styles and 14 colors. It is made of 3/4 inch HDPE, and the cabinets never need sanding or painting. See the outdoor kitchen cabinets pillar for materials and care.

Each style has its own page:

  • Club: a mix of traditional and contemporary, with a beveled outside edge
  • Moderno: sleek, angular and straightforward, with a flat surface
  • Oxford: resembles the V-grooved style for a farmhouse look
  • Regent: a traditional style with classical charm
  • Sedona: a shaker-style profile for a minimal look

The 2025 Endura brochure lists 11 solid matte colors and 3 Decograin wood looks. The solid matte colors are Dove, Dune, Dolphin Gray, Sage, Mica, Slate Gray, Nutmeg, Symphony Blue, Charcoal Gray, Hearthstone Brown and Black Jack. The Decograin colors are White Oak, Brown Walnut and Barnwood Gray. Learn more on the Endura page.

How do I order samples?

Ask your authorized dealer. The company tells buyers to request a sample before ordering. Its Endura pages say screens and prints do not show exact color. The policies page adds that door samples and displays may not match the cabinets you receive.

Innovation Cabinetry sells through dealers, so samples and showroom displays come from them. The company’s pages do not list a sample request form for homeowners.

When your sample arrives, check it in your room:

  1. Hold it next to your countertop, floor and wall color.
  2. Look at it in morning light and in evening light.
  3. Tape it next to a second finish to compare.
  4. Ask whether future add-on cabinets can match, since wood color shifts over time.

The last step matters. Cabinets added later may not match the earlier set exactly.

Which collection fits which style?

Pick the collection from your door style, then your color. The table at the top shows door styles by collection. In short, EliteCraft covers shaker and raised panel. Urban covers shaker, slim shaker and flat panel. Endura covers outdoor kitchens.

  • Want a classic shaker in white, blue or gray: start with EliteCraft.
  • Want a raised panel door: see EliteCraft Classic.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between shaker and slim shaker doors?

Both have a five-piece frame with a flat center panel. A slim shaker has narrower frame pieces, so the door looks lighter and more modern. A standard shaker has wider frame pieces and a more traditional feel. Urban offers both styles.

Are flat panel doors the same as slab doors?

Yes, in this context. A flat panel or slab door is one flat piece with no frame lines. Innovation Cabinetry calls its Urban Cityscapes doors flat panel with European styling. Pick it for a plain, modern face.

Which door style suits a traditional kitchen?

A raised panel door is the classic traditional choice. EliteCraft Classic offers raised panel doors in Classic White and Maduro. A standard shaker door also works in traditional and transitional rooms. Walk through your dealer's showroom to compare both.

What color families does Innovation Cabinetry offer?

Indoor cabinets come in white, cream, gray, blue, green, black and wood tones across EliteCraft and Urban. The Endura outdoor line adds 14 colors, including 3 wood grain looks. Each collection has its own list, so check the color page.

Do cabinet colors match a sample exactly?

Not always. The company states that door samples and displays may not be the exact color of the cabinets you receive, and painted or stained wood changes naturally over time. Request a sample and view it in your own room light.

How do I order cabinet samples?

Ask your authorized dealer. The company's pages tell buyers to request a sample before ordering, but they do not list a homeowner sample form. Use the find a dealer form to reach a dealer who can show you real doors.
