Edge banding

Edge banding is a thin strip applied to the raw edge of a panel to seal it from moisture and give the cut edge a finished look.

When a panel is cut, the core shows at the edge. Edge banding covers that raw side. It protects the core from water and gives a clean line that matches the face.

The quality of the band decides how long the edge lasts. A weak glue line can lift in a damp kitchen or garage.

Innovation Cabinetry names its own system. The Maverick Garageworx flyer says Invisa-Edge uses "a pre-applied, functional layer that is activated using advanced hot air edge banding technology" with no glue lines or visible seams. The flyer says it is available on Urban and Profile slab door styles made in the U.S.A. The Maverick Garageworx brochure says Invisa-Edge creates a moisture-resistant finish. Edge banding matters most on TFL panels. See Urban and Maverick Garageworx. Compare with a particleboard core.
