Plywood box
A plywood box is a cabinet body built from thin layers of wood veneer glued in alternating directions, which makes it strong, stable and good at holding screws.
Plywood is made of thin wood layers, called plies. Each layer runs across the one below it. This cross-grain build makes the panel strong and helps it resist warping.
A plywood box holds screws and hinges well, and it handles the weight of heavy countertops. It is a common choice for quality cabinets. Plywood is a composite wood product, so rules on formaldehyde apply. See CARB2.
Innovation Cabinetry builds with plywood in two indoor lines. The EliteCraft brochure says "The 3/4" plywood box panel construction is 50% thicker than industry standards." Urban uses a 3/4 inch white plywood (11-ply) box with a white TFL finish. Learn more in the EliteCraft and Urban pages. Compare it with particleboard. Ask your dealer to show a cut sample so you can see the layers for yourself.
