What are the top kitchen cabinet colors for 2026?

Neutrals lead, with greens and blues close behind. NKBA’s 2026 Kitchen Trends Report says 96% of respondents named neutrals the most popular colors, greens 86% and blues 78%. Wood grain is also growing. Innovation Cabinetry has colors in each group, so you can use the list below as a shopping guide.

The survey came from industry experts, such as designers, manufacturers, remodelers and architects. It reflects what the trade expects, not what every homeowner wants. NKBA released this report in September 2025. A 2027 report appeared on NKBA’s site on October 27, 2026. We did not open that report, so the numbers here are from the 2026 edition.

The table maps each trend to colors on the Innovation Cabinetry site. The match is by color family, based on each color’s name and page description. Screens change color, so ask a dealer for samples.

Trend (NKBA 2026) Innovation Cabinetry colors to look at
Neutrals and warm whites Shaker White, Pearl White, Classic White, Slim Seaside Dune
Greens Sage Shaker, Forest Green Shaker, Emerald
Blues Imperial Blue, Whisper Blue Shaker
Wood grain Natural Oak, Blonde Oak, Umbria Elm
Browns and deep tones Maduro, Raven
Flat slab doors Urban slab colors such as Bianco and Concrete Gray

Which cabinet colors count as neutral?

Neutrals mean whites, creams, beiges and grays. NKBA’s 96% figure makes them the safest base for a kitchen. Innovation Cabinetry’s white options include Shaker White, Pearl White and Classic White. Its page for Shaker White describes it as suiting traditional, transitional and contemporary homes.

For a softer tone, look at Slim Seaside Dune. The company’s page describes a soft beige tone that complements a wide range of styles and finishes. For gray, Storm Gray, Harbor Gray and Stone Gray are on the site. See the full list on our colors page.

NKBA’s Colors of the Year article adds a side note. Pantone chose a calming white called Cloud Dancer, which sets the stage so other colors stand out. That supports a quiet cabinet color with a bolder accent elsewhere.

Are green cabinets a real trend?

Yes, according to the survey. Greens reached 86%, second to neutrals. NKBA’s Colors of the Year article says greens played the starring role in the 2026 paint picks, with browns, creamy neutrals and pale yellows as supporting players.

Innovation Cabinetry has three green options. Sage Shaker has, in the company’s words, a soft green undertone. Forest Green Shaker is described as rich, bold and deep. Emerald is a slab color in the Urban line.

If you want green without a lot of risk, choose a soft green for the cabinets and keep the counters plain. Choose a deep green for an island if you want drama.

Blues hold third place at 78%. Two colors fit. Imperial Blue is on the EliteCraft Craftsman line, and the company calls it striking and stylish with simple lines. Whisper Blue Shaker is a lighter shade that the company describes as soft and understated.

Blue pairs well with white and with oak tones. Dark blue works on an island. A paler blue suits a small kitchen with light walls.

Is wood grain replacing painted cabinets?

Not replacing, but growing faster. The NKBA report says wood grain surpasses painted cabinets, with 59% of respondents calling it a growing trend. White oak led the wood types at 51%. Wood grain also fits NKBA’s note that natural materials take the lead.

Innovation Cabinetry’s wood-look options include Natural Oak and Blonde Oak in both flat panel and shaker styles. Umbria Elm adds a deeper wood tone. The Blonde Oak shaker page describes a high-definition wood finish with matching edge banding. The doors use a thermally fused laminate finish, and the company states the Urban box is 3/4 in. plywood.

Maduro is a different kind of brown. It is a painted raised-panel color on the Classic line, which the company describes as a nutmeg hue.

Do slab doors and shaker doors both fit 2026?

Yes. The NKBA report lists a flat, slab cabinet door style as gaining popularity (69%). It also says transitional and timeless design tops the style list at 72%. A shaker door fits the timeless look, and a flat panel door fits the modern look.

Our shaker, slim shaker and flat panel doors guide compares the profiles. The slim shaker glossary entry covers the narrow-rail version found on several Urban colors.

Where should I use a bold color?

Use it in a small area. NKBA says new statement colors will go on the backsplash (60%), wallpaper (60%), island (57%) and decorative accessories (55%). Cabinets are not on that list. So a quiet cabinet color with a bold island or backsplash follows the survey.

That also lowers your risk. A trend color on a big cabinet run is harder to change than paint on a wall.

How do I choose?

Start with light, floor and finishes you will keep. Then pick the color family. Our guide to choosing kitchen cabinet colors walks through the steps. The kitchen cabinet styles and colors page shows more options.

Trends move. NKBA’s data covers the next three years, but your kitchen should last longer. Choose a color you will still like in ten years. Do not choose it only because it is on a list.
