What KCMA Certification Means for Kitchen Cabinets

KCMA certification means a manufacturer's cabinet line passed tests under the ANSI/KCMA A161.1 standard. KCMA says certified cabinets passed 14 tests, including a 600-pound load test. Innovation Cabinetry's 2025 certificate lists named preassembled lines only, says flat pack is not certified, and expires November 30, 2026.

What does KCMA certification mean?

KCMA certification means a cabinet line passed independent tests set by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association. KCMA says certified cabinets passed 14 tests, including a 600-pound load test. The seal shows a line met the ANSI/KCMA A161.1 standard. It does not describe every product a company sells.

KCMA certification is a third-party check. A trade group runs the program and lists certified manufacturers in a public directory. A homeowner can look up a company instead of trusting a sales claim.

KCMA says its A161.1 seal covers three things: structural strength, drawer and door integrity, and finish durability. It also runs two other seals, one for environmental stewardship and one for severe use in apartment kitchens.

How hard are the KCMA tests?

KCMA says between 40% and 50% of cabinets fail their first certification attempt. It calls its tests rigid and says they show manufacturers where a product needs work. A pass is not automatic.

KCMA does not publish a price tag on the seal. Its FAQ says certified cabinets are available at every price point, from builder-grade units to high-end, custom designs. So the seal tells you about testing, not about cost.

KCMA also says it acts as a mediator when a homeowner has an issue with a certified cabinet. It works with the manufacturer toward a resolution. That is KCMA’s own statement, and this post does not promise any outcome.

Which Innovation Cabinetry lines does the 2025 certificate list?

The 2025 certificate lists 25 named preassembled lines. The lines that match current Innovation Cabinetry color pages are shown below. Certificate number 25145 was issued October 7, 2025.

The certificate says the manufacturer “is authorized to apply KCMA Certification Seals to the factory assembled kitchen and bath cabinet lines listed above.” It certifies conformance with ANSI/KCMA A161.1-2022.

Listed on the certificate Where to see it on this site
Shaker White, Pearl White, Imperial Blue, Storm Gray EliteCraft Craftsman colors
Classic White, Maduro EliteCraft Classic colors
Bayport, Bianco, Black Forest, Blonde Oak, Concrete Gray, Emerald, Harbor Gray, Modern Gray, Natural Oak, Raven, Stone Gray, Umbria Elm, Ultra White Urban colors
Coastal Cream, Midnight, Midnight Espresso, Premium Shaker, Shaker Frost, Ultra Named on the certificate; no matching color page on this site

Read the table with care. A color name on a current page and on the certificate does not prove the two are the same product. Ask your dealer to confirm the line against the certificate.

Which lines are not on the certificate?

The certificate does not name these current colors: Sage Shaker, Whisper Blue Shaker, Forest Green Shaker, the slim shaker colors, Seaside Dune and Shoreline. It does not name Endura outdoor cabinets or Maverick Garageworx garage cabinets either.

Not being on the certificate means KCMA does not list the line under this certificate. It does not mean the line failed anything. This post makes no claim about quality either way. Each line has its own warranty, which you can read on the warranty page.

Flat pack is a separate point. The certificate says flat pack (unassembled) cabinets, if sold by this manufacturer, are not certified. Anyone buying RTA cabinets should know the seal is for factory-assembled lines. Our RTA vs assembled guide explains the difference.

When does the certificate expire?

Certificate 25145 expires November 30, 2026. The certificate itself says it “may be updated at any time and will expire on the date listed above.” It may also be canceled for non-conformity or if the manufacturer leaves the program.

The certificate carries a fixed end date, so the seal is a snapshot, not a lifetime guarantee. This certificate supersedes number 24137, so an earlier one existed. After November 30, check the listing at kcma.org before you quote the seal. The directory page for the company is at kcma.org/company/innovation-cabinetry-llc.

Does the seal tell me if I should buy frameless or face-frame?

No. KCMA says a properly built frameless cabinet is equally durable, because both types can meet professional cabinet standards for long-term performance. Choose between them on how you want the kitchen to work and look.

Frameless cabinets have no face frame, so doors cover the whole box. Innovation Cabinetry’s Urban, EliteCraft and Maverick pages describe their cabinets as frameless. Our frameless vs face-frame guide compares the two styles in full.

Why does a dealer or builder care about the seal?

Dealers and builders use the seal as a shortcut. It tells a buyer that someone outside the factory tested the line. KCMA also lists a Severe Use certification, developed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, for apartment kitchens with heavy wear.

The company’s Profile multi-family page states that Profile products carry KCMA certification. The 2025 certificate does not name a Profile line, so builders should ask for the paperwork that matches their order. See the multi-family cabinets page for the program details.

How do I check a cabinet before I buy?

Use this short list with your dealer. It works for any brand.

  1. Ask for the exact line name and color of the cabinet.
  2. Look up the manufacturer in the KCMA directory at kcma.org.
  3. Find the line name on the current certificate, and check the expiry date.
  4. Ask whether your order is preassembled or flat pack.
  5. Read the warranty for that line, not for the brand.

Frequently asked questions

What does KCMA certified mean?

It means a cabinet line passed KCMA's third-party tests of structural strength, drawer and door integrity, and finish durability. KCMA says certified cabinets have passed 14 tests, including a 600-pound load test. Certification covers named lines, not a whole company.

Are all Innovation Cabinetry cabinets KCMA certified?

No. The 2025 KCMA certificate lists named preassembled lines. It states that flat pack (unassembled) cabinets, if sold by the manufacturer, are not certified. Check the line name on the certificate before you rely on the seal.

When does the Innovation Cabinetry KCMA certificate expire?

Certificate number 25145 was issued October 7, 2025 and expires November 30, 2026. KCMA says a certificate may be updated at any time, so check the current listing at kcma.org.

Are KCMA certified cabinets more expensive?

KCMA says not necessarily. Its FAQ states certified cabinets are available at every price point, from builder-grade units to high-end custom designs. Compare lines on construction and warranty, not on the seal alone.

Does KCMA certification mean frameless or face-frame?

Neither. KCMA says a properly built frameless cabinet is equally durable, because both types can meet professional cabinet standards. The certification tests a cabinet line, whatever its construction style.
