Particleboard

Particleboard is a panel made of wood chips and resin pressed into a flat sheet, and it is smooth, affordable to make and common in cabinet boxes.

Particleboard is made by gluing wood chips and sawdust with resin and pressing them flat. The result is a smooth, even panel. It is often covered with a surface such as TFL so it looks like wood or a solid color.

Its quality depends on density and on how well the edges are sealed. Water can swell the raw edge, so edge banding matters. Particleboard also falls under formaldehyde emission rules. See CARB2.

Innovation Cabinetry uses the term "furniture board" for some panels. The Maverick Garageworx brochure describes "durable 3/4'' TFL furniture board" in its garage cabinets, and the Profile brochure lists a "3/4 inch white TFL furniture board shelf." The brochures do not give the core type in more detail. Read the Maverick Garageworx page and ask a dealer for the exact core. Compare with a plywood box.
