## How do builders choose cabinets for a multi-family project?

Builders choose multi-family cabinets by comparing five things in writing: the specification, durability and emissions standards, shop drawings from the plans, delivery and labeling by unit, and the warranty. Ask each supplier for the same five answers. Then compare them side by side before you award the order.

A rental building is not a custom home. Cabinets get opened thousands of times, cleaned hard and replaced between tenants. Hundreds of boxes must also reach the right unit in the right order. A good supplier answers questions about all of this before you sign.

The rest of this page follows that checklist. It uses the Profile line from Innovation Cabinetry as the worked example. Every Profile claim below comes from our own Profile pages, and each one is attributed.

## What is the Profile multi-family line?

Profile is the Innovation Cabinetry line for multi-family developments and production builders. The company describes it as “Built for efficiency, durability, and modern aesthetics.” It suits projects “spanning from small two-family homes to large residential apartment buildings,” according to the [Profile multi-family page](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/profile_multi-family_cabinetry-made_in_usa).

Innovation Cabinetry is a cabinet company in Tampa, Florida. It sells through authorized dealers, and it also runs a dedicated multi-family team. That team is made up of project managers, designers and estimators. Each member supports “every stage of the process,” from the first estimate to shop drawings.

Profile is one of six collections. The others are EliteCraft, Urban, Endura, Maverick Garageworx and Storage Solutions. Only Profile is aimed at multi-family and production builders.

## What specifications should a multi-family cabinet list?

A multi-family cabinet specification should name the box material, door construction, hinges, drawer parts, shelves, finish and any parts sold separately. If a supplier cannot list these in one document, you cannot compare bids fairly. Ask for the spec book and read it line by line.

The [Profile specifications page](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/profile_multi-family_specifications) lists the following. We quote the company’s words.

- Doors and drawer fronts: “Full overlay door and drawer fronts constructed of 3/4” eco-friendly furniture board with premium Invisa-edge banding. Available in both Shaker and Slab door profiles.”
- Hinges: “6-way adjustable soft-close concealed door hinges allow doors to close silently and smoothly.”
- Shelves: “3/4” Eco-friendly furniture board with full-depth adjustable shelves.”
- Drawers: “Slim epoxy-coated metal drawer with a 1/2” eco-friendly furniture board bottom and a 1/2” back.” The side-mounted soft-close glides have a 3/4” extension and “support weights up to 100 lbs.”
- Joinery: “Constructed with Invisa-lock, a patented hidden joinery system.”
- Finish: “Cabinet box interior and exterior sides have a TFL white finish. Color-match Decor End Panels are available.”
- Parts sold separately: “Matching toe-kick and side panels are sold separately.”

That last item matters for your takeoff. If you need matching toe-kicks or side panels, add them to the order list.

These terms have plain meanings. A [full overlay](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/glossary/full-overlay) door covers the whole front of the box. A [soft-close hinge](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/glossary/soft-close-hinge) slows the door at the end of its swing. [TFL](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/glossary/tfl) is a thermally fused laminate surface. [Edge banding](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/glossary/edge-banding) seals the cut edges of the panels. A [toe-kick](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/glossary/toe-kick) is the recessed base under a cabinet. The [multi-family specification guide](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/guides/multi-family-cabinet-specification-guide) goes deeper on each term.

## Are the cabinets frameless, and does it matter for rentals?

Yes. The Profile specifications page describes “Full-access frameless cabinets.” A [frameless](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/glossary/frameless) cabinet has no face frame across the front, so the opening is wider. The [full-access](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/glossary/full-access) design gives a cleaner reach into the box. Read the full comparison in the [frameless cabinets guide](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/frameless-cabinets).

For a builder, the practical point is simple. Full overlay doors on a frameless box leave a uniform look from unit to unit. Soft-close hardware also cuts door noise in occupied buildings. Whether those features justify the choice for your project is your call. Ask the supplier to show a sample unit.

## What durability and emissions standards should I ask about?

Ask for the certificate, not just the claim. Durability and emissions claims are only useful if you can see the paperwork, the standard it names, and the product line it covers. A logo on a brochure does not tell you which cabinets were tested.

The Profile page makes three claims under “Tested & Proven Durabilty” \[sic\]:

- “CARB II Compliance - Profile cabinetry has met and exceeded the strict standards for formaldehyde emissions.”
- “KCMA (Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association) Certification - Our Profile products adhere to rigorous industry standards for quality, durability, and performance.”
- “ECC Certified - The core materials for Profile cabinetry are sourced from an ECC Certified Manufacturer.”

Here is what the standards bodies say. The KCMA says its certified cabinets “have passed rigorous tests of their structural strength, drawer and door integrity, and finish durability.” The U.S. EPA says its formaldehyde rule “established a third-party certification program for laboratory testing and oversight of formaldehyde emissions” from composite wood products. For plain-language definitions, see [KCMA certification](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/glossary/kcma-certification) and [CARB2](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/glossary/carb2).

Before you rely on these claims for a bid or a code review, request the current certificate for the Profile line from the multi-family team. Confirm the line, the standard and the expiration date.

## Can cabinets be made from architectural plans, and are ADA options available?

Yes, on both counts. The Profile page says its design team “generates a comprehensive set of shop drawings derived from the architectural plans.” It also lists “a comprehensive ADA offering” among the project types it supports.

Shop drawings let you catch conflicts on paper. You can check appliance openings, wall lengths and filler needs before cabinets ship. Send your plans early. Ask which drawing format you will receive and who signs off on changes.

The Profile page does not list individual ADA products or dimensions. Ask the team which accessible layouts it can supply, and check your local accessibility requirements with your architect or building department.

## How do labeling and staggered delivery work?

The Profile page says each cabinet is labeled with its size and unit number, and that staggered deliveries are available. In practice, labeling lets installers set the right box in the right unit. Staggering lets you receive cabinets in stages that match your build schedule.

“Being a U.S. manufacturer allows us to swiftly adapt to changing field conditions, ensuring responsiveness to your needs.” It adds that “you can count on swift delivery without compromising quality” and describes “the flexibility of staggered deliveries.” Those are the company’s claims, quoted from its Profile page.

Staging helps with two common site problems. Storage space is tight, and early deliveries risk damage. Ask each supplier how many stages it offers, how the labels read, and how a missing or damaged box is handled.

## What lead time questions should I ask?

Ask for a lead time in writing, tied to your order size and delivery stages. The Profile page says “short lead times” but gives no number. Do not plan a schedule on a phrase. Get the number, the start date it counts from, and what happens if it slips.

Use this short list with any supplier, Innovation Cabinetry included:

1. When does the lead time start: at order, at approved shop drawings or at deposit?
2. Does it change by order size or number of delivery stages?
3. What is the process if the schedule moves?
4. Who handles a damaged or missing box on site?

## What warranty applies to multi-family cabinets?

Profile cabinetry carries a one-year warranty, as the Profile page states. We will “happily repair or replace any item or parts found defective within one year from your purchase date.” Other Innovation Cabinetry lines have different terms, so always name the line when you ask.

A one-year term is short next to the 10-year limited warranty on the company’s indoor lines. Builders should read it with that in mind. It covers defects. It does not promise a cabinet will last for any set number of years. Ask for the written warranty, then compare it with your own turnover cycle and your contract with the property owner.

See the [warranty page](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/warranty) for the other lines. The company’s dealer and builder teams can explain the claim process for Profile.

## Where are the cabinets made?

The Profile brochure carries the heading “MADE IN THE USA” and the figure “70-90% U.S. CONTENT.” The Profile page says “Being a U.S. manufacturer allows us to swiftly adapt to changing field conditions.”

If origin matters to your project, for example because of a funding rule, ask for the documentation that supports the claim. Ask how the content percentage is calculated.

## How do I request a quote?

Use the [multi-family contact form](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/profile_multi-family_contact-us). It asks for your company name, email, address and phone number. The specifications page also has a “Request Spec Book” button. Send your unit count, unit types and target dates so the team can respond with useful numbers.

If you are a dealer or builder who wants an account, apply through [become a dealer](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/become-a-dealer). The multi-family team handles Profile project quotes.
