# Dovetail drawer

A dovetail drawer joins its corners with interlocking wedge-shaped cuts that lock together, which resists pulling apart under the weight of heavy drawer loads.

A dovetail joint looks like a row of fan-shaped pins and sockets. The pieces lock together, so the drawer sides cannot pull away from the front. Many woodworkers see this joint as a sign of good drawer construction.

When you shop, look at the drawer box. A solid wood box with dovetail corners holds up under daily use. Pair it with good [drawer glides](https://innovationcabinetry.multisites.ai/glossary/drawer-glide) for smooth movement.

The EliteCraft brochure says its "Solid natural wood drawer box is constructed using four corner dovetail joints." The Seaside Dune tear sheet lists a 5/8 inch solid natural wood drawer box with four dovetail joints. Other lines use different drawers. For example, Urban uses a slim metal drawer.
